RIVERWOODS, Ill., March 5, 2002…Discover Financial Services, a business unit of Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MWD), today announced that the Account Center at Discovercard.com has registered over eight million Cardmembers, an increase of 61 percent since January 2001.

In addition to this milestone, Discover^® Card has launched an online sweepstakes on Discovercard.com. From now until May 31, 2002, Cardmembers who register and pay their Discover Card bills online using the SmartCheck^SM payment option will automatically be entered in the sweepstakes. One lucky grand prize sweepstakes winner will take home $10,000 in cash. Plus, 15 Discover Cardmembers will win $1000 each and 30 Discover Cardmembers will win $100 each.

The SmartCheck payment option is a free, convenient way for Cardmembers to pay their Discover Card bills online. Plus, it's fast, economical and safe to use. By registering at the Account Center, Discover Cardmembers also have access to Discover Inter@ctive, a free service that offers eight e-mail notifications and reminders regarding the status of their Discover Card accounts.

In an April 2001 study by Brittain Associates, Inc., over four million U.S. consumers claimed that Discover Card is the credit card they reach for most often when buying online, making it consumers' favorite credit card for online purchasing.
