Discover Financial Services Ranked Among Top 100 Workplaces For Information Technology Professionals

IDG's Computerworld annual list based on work environment, benefits and employee survey

RIVERWOODS, Ill., Aug 30, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS) announces that IDG's Computerworld selected it as one of the top workplaces for information technology professionals for the fifth year in a row.

Discover ranked 45th on the 2007 Computerworld Best Places to Work in IT list, moving up nine places from last year.

"This recognition highlights our investment of time and resources to give employees not only excellent benefits and opportunities for work-life balance, but also consistently engaging projects," said Diane Offereins, executive vice president and chief technology officer. "Our technology teams know that their hard work makes a difference whether it is an internal solution or one that touches millions of our customers."

Computerworld, which has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals since 1994, based the listings on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, this year Computerworld randomly surveyed 20,435 IT workers from the top 100 companies - including 213 from Discover - and their responses factored heavily in determining the rankings.

"This year's Best Places to Work rankings represent companies across the industry that recognize how a strong commitment to and investment in employees is synonymous with creating a great IT work environment," said Don Tennant, editor in chief of Computerworld. "Once again, we found that IT professionals are looking for rewarding and challenging projects, access to leading-edge technologies, career growth and development and a comfortable work/life balance. Our Best Places companies not only offer these benefits, but do so in a manner that goes well above industry norms."

In scoring the responses from the company and employee surveys, company results were weighted based on employees' importance ratings from the employee component. Approximately one-half of the total scoring system was based on employee responses, with the remainder based on the survey of the company's benefits and other programs.
