The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the international fine dining industry. Ducasse, from the southwest of France, has been honored this year for his reputation for innovation in French cuisine and his indisputable influence over today’s generation of chefs and restaurateurs around the globe.

El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain claimed the coveted first spot on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, unveiled during the awards ceremony after spending two years at second place.

The Lifetime Achievement Award and list of 2013 winners is voted for by The Diners Club® World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of over 900 international leaders in the restaurant industry. The Academy comprises 26 separate regions around the world, each of which has 36 members, including a chairperson, and each member can cast seven votes. Of those seven, at least three votes must recognize restaurants outside of their own region.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants is organized by Restaurant magazine and the awards were presented in the company of the world’s most influential restaurateurs, finest chefs and international media at London’s Guildhall on April 29, 2013.
