Award to Now Provide $100,000 in College Scholarships

RIVERWOODS, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Discover Student Loans is continuing to help cover college costs by increasing the overall dollar amount and number of winners to its annual scholarship sweepstakes. The program will award a total of $100,000 in college scholarships to 40 students who enter between March 2016 and February 2017. Each winning student will receive a $2,500 scholarship to help cover college costs such as tuition, housing and books. Students can continue to increase their chances to win by gaining bonus entries through social shares.

“The new changes to the Discover Student Loans scholarship award will allow us to help even more students pay for a college education,” said Danny Ray, president of Discover Student Loans. “Scholarships and other free money play a critical role in the early stages of paying for college. It’s our hope that students and families will take advantage of the Discover Student Loans scholarship, its simple application process as well as our scholarship search database so they can find other opportunities that will help them pay for college.”

Students planning to attend an accredited, nonprofit, four-year college or university in the U.S. at least half-time this fall are eligible to enter the scholarship sweepstakes online starting in March, and awards can be used during the 2016-17 academic year. High school seniors and current undergraduate students are eligible.

Between June 2016 and March 2017, D.L. Blair, Inc., an independent judging organization, will conduct four random drawings from all of the eligible entries received and 10 winners will be selected per drawing. Students can earn up to three additional entries into the Discover Student Loans scholarship sweepstakes if they share their original entry via Facebook, Twitter and/or email. Students who enter will receive tips and information on planning and paying for college. No purchase or student loan necessary to enter or win.

Discover Student Loans also provides additional scholarship resources online that allow students to search for more than three million scholarship and grant opportunities nationwide, which are valued at more than $18 billion. The database provides personalized results based on key categories such as career, interests and major.
