Discover Joins Walmart in its “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” Campaign to Make a Difference in Local Communities

Company to donate one meal for every Discover card purchase at Walmart to help Feeding America secure 100 million meals on behalf of member food banks

RIVERWOODS, ILL., April 17, 2017 – Today, Discover announces its participation in Walmart’s “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign, a nationwide initiative encouraging the public to join together in the fight against hunger, a problem affecting one in eight Americans, according to the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The campaign will offer a number of ways to take action against hunger and help a local Feeding America food bank, one of which is by making a purchase on a Discover card at U.S. Walmart stores, Walmart.com or with WalmartPay from April 17-May 15, 2017. For every one of those Discover card purchases, Discover will donate the equivalent of one meal ($0.09) to Feeding America, a United States -based nonprofit organization, and its network of member food banks, up to $1 million.

The campaign also encourages people to spread the word and engage with others using the hashtag #FightHunger on their social media channels. Additionally, shoppers have the option to donate to their local Feeding America food bank at the register during checkout at Walmart.

Discover is the first and only financial services company involved in the campaign and joins some of the nation’s leading food companies including Campbell Soup Company, General Mills, Kellogg Company, the Kraft Heinz Company and PepsiCo, in the effort.
