Mic expands with first “360 brand:” The Payoff, a personal financial channel for millennials

New brand features weekly video and audio across multiple platforms

Sponsored exclusively by Discover

Today Mic announces the launch of The Payoff, a personal finance channel targeting millennials that includes strengthened editorial, a social video series, podcast, interactive products and a refreshed newsletter. Off the success of Mic’s Money vertical launch last spring, Mic, along with exclusive sponsor Discover, is taking its commitment to bridging the knowledge gap in millennial personal finance to the next level with this new 360 degree brand.

“The Payoff marks an evolution into programming brands for Mic, focused on micro communities and issues millennials are curious about. It’s a channel built for the new digital world,” said Cory Haik, Mic’s chief strategy officer. “Mic is good at telling stories in native ways and is looking to build brands across platforms. We analyzed what was working, how audiences were reacting to content emotionally and honed in on their consumption patterns. The content of The Payoff, product offshoots, and video content all reflect that.”

As exclusive sponsor, Discover supports Mic’s commitment to providing millennials with the information they need to reach their financial goals. Discover promotes credit health and awareness among all consumers, and offers numerous financial products and services, including the Discover it® chrome for Students credit card and the Discover it® Secured credit card.

“As a company that’s been at the leading edge of millennial finance with products and services that can help this generation start their financial journey on the right foot, we’re excited to support the launch of The Payoff,” said Jennifer Murillo, Discover’s Vice President of Brand Communications. “Whether embarking on a new career, building credit or sizing up a big purchase, there is a lot to learn and to navigate for young consumers when it comes to their finances. The Payoff will be there to help by delivering useful and compelling content across a variety of platforms.”

The Payoff will be available in all of the places where young people spend time consuming content today. There will be a bi-weekly podcast hosted by senior money editor, Susie Poppick, and weekly Facebook Live broadcasts featuring rock-star entrepreneurs, guests from top tier companies and policy experts frequenting Mic’s new offices atop One World Trade Center. Mic’s new iOS app will deliver breaking news and real-time updates on what our audience needs to know, the refreshed Payoff newsletter will offer a measured take on the most important news of the week and Mic’s robust social channels will showcase visually engaging entry points into important and interesting money news.

"As this generation grows up, begin to start families of their own, buy homes and save for the future, finance is a sector that is of growing importance to millennials. As Mic grows up with its audience, this kind of content is in perfect alignment with our brand,” said Haik. From entrepreneurism, key business news, relevant market data, tech trends in money management to career development, The Payoff will be this generation’s guide to the future they want.
